📕Setup - Areas

Last updated: September 23, 2026

Overview

Areas represent functional areas within the facility and aid in organizing machines, lines, and resources into separate groups. This takes away some of the clutter from the dispatch screen, making dispatch entry easier.

Note: If your facility reorganizes and renames dispatch areas at some point, do not go into the dispatch system and rename the existing areas. This causes problems with dispatch reporting, since there is no clean break in the database between old and new area names. Instead, create the new areas, reassign all lines to them, and then deactivate the old areas.

Prerequisites & Preparation

  • Required Permissions: System Manager or Administrator

Step-by-Step Configuration

  1. Navigate to the Menu: Go to Setup > Areas.

  2. Initiate Creation: Click Add New in the upper right corner of the Areas bar.

  3. Enter Details:

    • Area Code: Enter a code. Administrators may change the code later if needed, and the change will be updated throughout the system.

    • Area Description: Enter a description. Choose one that is common within the workplace and understood throughout.

  4. Define Attributes:

    • Default Dispatch Type: Select from the dropdown list. This is the dispatch type that will be auto-selected when adding new dispatch events, though others can be chosen based on the actual event type.

    • Restrict Spares Issues: Restrict to Default or Secondary Warehouses to prevent requesters from choosing spares outside the designated warehouses.

    • Machine History: Set the number of days of history pulled from the Machine link on the main Dispatch screen (quick history). Typically 30–60 days is sufficient — higher values take longer to load.

    • Inactive: Use this to inactivate Areas no longer in use.

    • External ID: Used only for integrations.

    • Enable Work Orders: Enable if the Area will be available for Work Order Requests. Most Areas have this checked Yes.

    • Production Thresholds: Used to set visual dashboard color thresholds in the Production Module. No need to set these if the Production Module is not in use.

  5. Save & Finalize: Click Save.
