L2L Analytics Walkthrough: Minor Stops by Machine by Month

Last updated: October 21, 2026

This walkthrough builds a stacked bar chart that answers: How many minor stops does each machine have per month? It shows how to put time on the X-axis and roll timestamps up to months.

Prerequisites & Preparation

  • Required Permissions: Creating a chart from a saved dataset requires the Limited Creator role or higher. See How to update Roles in L2L Analytics.

  • Dataset: A minor stop is a dispatch type, so this chart uses the Dispatch dataset.

Step-by-Step Configuration

  1. Open the Dataset: Go to Datasets, open the Dispatch dataset, and select Bar Chart.

  2. Set the Time Range: Set the time range to Current year.

  3. Put Time on the X-Axis: Drag a timestamp column onto the X-axis. This example uses the reported timestamp. Datasets also include created, due, completed, and scheduled timestamps.

  4. Set the Time Grain: Set Time grain to Month. Timestamps are stored to the second, so the time grain rolls them up.

  5. Add the Metric: Drag in COUNT(*).

  6. Filter to Minor Stops: Add dispatch type code to Filters, search the values for stop, and select every variant (for example, "Minor Stop" and "Minor Stops").

  7. Create the Chart: Click Create chart.

  8. Break It Out by Machine: Drag machine short description into Dimensions and click Update chart. Machine code and machine model name are also available, but the short description is usually easiest to read.

  9. Make It Readable: On the Customize tab, set stacked style to Stack, turn on Minor ticks and Data zoom, and rotate the X-axis labels to 45°.

  10. Limit to Your Sites (Optional): Search site, drag the site name column into Filters, and select one or more sites.

  11. Save the Chart: Name the chart, click Save, and add it to the same dashboard as your other charts.

Note: Analytics shows data for all sites. Without a site filter, this chart includes every site's machines.
