Kitting groups parts together for use on a scheduled event or work order, such as preventive maintenance or machine repair. You build the kit from the Scheduler or from the Work Order module. In a scheduled event, the Kit BOM appears on the row for the occurrence type. In a work order, the kit appears in the Spares Kit BOM section near the bottom of the page. The Kit BOM will display the number of parts, not the quantity of total parts in the kit. For example, if you have a quantity of 3 of 1 (single) item in your kit, the BOM will count that item 1 time. Select Add/Edit to open the Kit Template, where you can choose parts from Inventory Control and add them to the kit template for that event.
After the event launches, you can find the kit from Dispatch under Spares, in the Spares Queue, and on the Kits page under the Spares menu. Users with Inventory Manager permissions, such as a spare room attendant, typically build the kits and update the status. Default status will be 'Requested for Kit.'
- Reserved: Use this status when the kit has been assembled and is ready for pickup. Parts begin in Requested for Kit. When a part is moved to Reserved for Kit, it is issued to the dispatch, the status changes to completed, and inventory is decremented as if the user closed a spare request from the queue. As soon as a spare part is requested, it moves to the Reserved column in Inventory Control. The reserved part is deducted from the inventory.
- Return: Use this status when a part is no longer needed (returned) for the kit. This will put the part back in 'requested for Kit' status.
- Split: Use this status when only part of the requested quantity is available, so you can reserve the available quantity now and fulfill the rest later.
After you've edited the status for your parts, you'll need to write in a Location where the technician can pick them up along with any notes.
Buttons at the bottom:
- Save
- Issue Kit: Issues all 'Reserved for Kit' parts to the dispatch, changes to 'completed', and decrements from inventory. Parts remaining Requested for Kit are deleted, returns those parts to stock, and closes the kit (no longer showing on Kits screen).
- Add Parts: Allows you to add any additional parts needed
- Cancel
- Delete
The Reserved column on the Inventory Management and Request Spares screens shows how many parts are currently reserved to kits, as parts are still in inventory. This helps users identify stock that has been allocated to kit activity when reviewing available inventory. In case of emergency, these parts can be returned to inventory on the Kit screen to be issued to an emergency Dispatch.
Notes:
- When you need multiple quantities of the same part in a kit, select the part once and enter the quantity at the top instead of clicking the part multiple times.
- The number on the kit in the scheduler will change with every event and increment across the server, not just the site. (If your company has more than one site).
- **If you have your Spares integrated and want to use kitting; you'll need to set up the integration to search for the kitting statuses: Kit Reserved, Kit Requested. For code-level status definitions, see Spare Parts Transactions Status Codes.
