Skills: Trainer Requirements, Matrix and Notifications
Last updated: July 30, 2026
The L2L Skills Module allows management of employee certifications, trainer permissions, and line compliance. Follow this guide to configure trainers, track skill matrices, manage user accounts, and set up automated training dispatches.
1. Initial Setup & Trainer Management
Before using the module, ensure Skills is enabled under Site Properties > Other Module Settings.
Adding a New Trainer
(Requires Manager Rights in Skill Settings)
Navigate to the Trainers section and click Add New.
Search and select the associate's name.
Select the specific lines they are certified to train on.
Click Save.
Troubleshooting: If a trainer encounters the error "Trainers must be trained on a skill to at least the same level to train" while updating an associate's skill level, confirm that the trainer has been granted Manager Rights in Skill Settings.
2. Using the Skill Requirement Matrix
Supervisors and managers can monitor line compliance and identify skill gaps using the User View or the Skill Requirement Matrix.
Line-Level Visibility: View assigned associate roles, required skills, current certification levels, and outstanding training requirements.
Quick Access: Access the matrix directly from the Operator Portal line-level view by clicking the Link icon.
3. Automated Check-In Notifications & Training Dispatches
To prevent unqualified personnel from operating equipment, you can configure L2L to automatically trigger a training dispatch when an associate checks in without the required skill level.
Configuration Steps
Link Machines to Lines: Go to Setup > Production > Machines and verify each machine is assigned to its corresponding line so skill logic applies across both levels.
Enable Skill Tracking: Under Line Settings in Setup, enable Operator Portal Skill Tracking.
Define Skill Requirements: Open the Skills module to set required skill levels for both lines and machines, as well as your site's dispatch rules (e.g., generating a single dispatch for all missing skills vs. individual dispatches per skill).
Set Up Dispatch Triggers:
Define Thresholds: Set the skill level at or below which a notification dispatch will trigger.
Configure Dispatch Routing: Select the designated Dispatch Type and target Trade to be notified.
Assign Default Machine: Ensure a default machine is assigned in the line setup so dispatches route correctly.
Workflow Overview
Operator Check-In: An operator checks into a line or machine via the Operator Portal.
Automated Verification: System conducts a background check comparing the operator's certifications against defined line and machine skill thresholds.
Action Triggered:
Meets/Exceeds Requirement: Check-in completes normally.
Skill Deficiency Detected: L2L automatically generates and routes a training dispatch to designated supervisors or trainers.
Troubleshooting:
Restoring Skills for Reactivated Users
Deactivating an employee sets their skills to Not Applicable (N/A). When a user account is reactivated, their skills are not automatically restored.
To restore a reactivated user's skills:
Navigate to the User Skills screen.
Filter the view by Inactive or All.
Search for the reactivated user.
Manually reactivate the required skills for their role.
